Kim Willocks – Multisport Champion – Australian XPD Winner, World Championship XPD Qualifier
XPD Expedition Adventure Race

"I first used AmaMax Sports Recovery Custard at the XPD Adventure Race last November which travelled 800kms through the Australian Alps. XPD last year involved competing for five days, non-stop of running, mountain biking and kayaking with around 20,000 metres of altitude gain. These races are very demanding physically with nutrition being a vital part of the race as we attempt to maintain a reasonable intensity for 120+ hours. In previous races I have experienced varying levels of muscle soreness and fatigue after a couple of days of racing, resulting in racing the last few days with moderate levels of discomfort and ultimately, decreased speed and performance".

"During XPD last year I ensured I had a full serve of AmaMax at each transition (12 in total) for the duration of the event. The full serve was so quick and easy to consume, and digested with no discomfort during the following strenuous activity. My muscle soreness during this race was by far the least I have had, despite the endless hills that we found all over the Australian Alps. My legs still felt great at the end of the race, and my recovery in the following weeks was faster than in previous races.

I resumed my normal training after only three weeks post-race, which is half my usual recovery time. We finished the race in 1st place, in 5 days 15 hours and 3 minutes, just under 15 hours ahead of the 2nd placed team".

Murray Marathon 2008

"The Murray Marathon is a 5 day, 404km Kayak race on Australia's longest river that takes place from the 26th -31st December each year. Myself and my partner Kim Willocks raced the Mixed Recreational Kayak class and broke the record by over 4 hrs 45 mins completing the race in a cumulative time of 30 hrs 11 min. This was the 4th time we had completed the full-distance event, having won the event on two previous occasions and also holding the Mixed Racing Kayak record (27hrs 59min, 2003)."

"Being competitive in this race is as much about what you do while paddling as it is about recovering between each day of racing. Every previous time we have completed the race we have each had a couple of "bad" days with sore muscles or not consuming enough food or the right food to repair our muscles and replenish our glycogen levels. In 2008 we trialled a new recovery food ... AmaMax. Kim and I each had 1-2 serves of AmaMax immediately after each day of paddling then followed this up with our normal food and fluid intake. Every day we felt fantastic, the start of each stage we had little or no muscle fatigue from the previous day of paddling and our energy levels during the day were amazingly consistent. Although we were paddling a Recreational Kayak we still finished in 4th place overall against all of the racing kayaks and smashed our class record by almost 5 hours."
